Compact Fluorescent (CFL) Recycling

On April 22, 2009 (Earth Day), Brant County Power and the County of Brant launched their CFL recycling program. Shown below is what a CFL recycling station looks like. These can be found at five various locations throughout the County of Brant and are available for you to use year round.

Replacing standard incandescent light bulbs with CFLs is one of the easiest ways to reduce everyday energy costs. They last up to 10 times longer and provide the same light output using up to 75 percent less energy. Compact Fluorescents are very safe to use and, as with any electrical device, pose no danger when used properly. What makes CFL’s energy efficient is that they contain trace amounts of mercury. The amount is very small, no larger than the period at the end of this sentence. Because they contain even this small amount of mercury, they should be disposed of properly. The best way is to recycle them.
Recycling CFLs is the responsible thing to do!
